The German troops are about to enter Paris. Georg, a German refugee, escapes last minute to Marseille. He carries with him the belongings of the late writer Weidel, eventually takes on his identity and loses himself within this state of transit. However, when he meets mysterious Marie and falls in love with her, everything changes.

Christian Petzold’s film Transit is based on the same-titled novel from 1942 by Anna Seghers. The film tells a story of love, escape, exile, and the search for a place called home – set in today’s Marseille.

After the screening, Christian Petzold will talk about his bold adaptation of the novel transferring the 1942 plot into the present time.
