Harald Bergmann – Der Schmetterlingsjäger

Discussion and Screening of 37 Karteikarten zu Nabokov.
D/CH 2015, 135 min

An author and a filmmaker discuss how to make a film about Vladimir Nabokov.

A man drives through the Alps to find a long lost lover.

A filmic essay discussing the nature of time through episodes of Nabokov’s life, books, philosophical dialogues and imaginary reconstructions.

“The basis of this production, just like with my films about Brinkmann and Hölderlin, is a text by Nabokov. Dmitri, his son, could read the texts of his father in a way no actor ever could, he advised and supported me in developing the unique approach of this film.

The documental starting point is an improvised dialogue between an author and the director who contemplate about making a film about Nabokov and his themes, approaches and style. Material from three of his books add to this.” (Bergmann)

Followed by a Q&A with the director Harald Bergmann.
