A Night for Thomas Brasch

A night revolving around the author and filmmaker as a theme for a new movie in texts and pictures and as a member of a family who were seen as the “GDR’s Buddenbrooks”.

In December 2019 the production of Brasch about Thomas Brasch’s life was wrapped. Award-winning actor Albrecht Schuch plays the poet who could tell more in a couple of lines than others in entire books.

Director Andreas Kleinert and screenwriter Thomas Wendrich give first insights into the film’s production, followed by a reading of Brasch’s works and a screening of the documentary Familie Brasch (D 2018, 103 min):

Director Annekatrin Hendel shows the historic tensions in the family: Between east and west, art and politics, communism and religion, love and treason, utopia and self-destruction. She meets the only living family member Marion, trusted friends and lovers such as actor Katharina Thalbach, poet Christoph Hein and songwriter Bettina Wegner.
