Harz | Harpiks

by Daniel Borgman adapted from the Thriller by Ane Riel.
DK 2019, 92 min, english subtitles.

Ane Riel’s original novel won the most renown Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and overall Scandinavian crime literature prices, but is by no means a standard Nordic noir.

Harz revolves around a small family that chose to live in isolation on a Danish island. The only occasional visitor is the mailman who gets chased away upon arrival. It is clear that the parents (Peter Plaugborg, Sofie Gråbøl) decision to isolate themselves is motivated by paranoia mental illness as well as their desire to live close to nature. As their daughter (Vivelill Søgaard Holm) begins to develop interest for the outside world, their way of life is slowly being challenged. The beauty and harmony of nature stand as a sharp contrast to Daniel Borgman’s atmosphere of nightmarish brutality.
